Can Laser Tag Damage Eyes?

Laser tag has been around for decades, allowing kids of all ages (yes, we mean you, moms and dads!) to have a blast at birthday parties and other fun events. It’s a great way to get in some exercise while also putting your competitive side to the test. But, can laser tag damage eyes? That’s a great question! Here’s what you should know before you go play a round or two of this amazingly fun game.

Laser Tag Is Completely Safe for the Eyes

Despite the name, laser tag doesn’t actually involve any real lasers. Instead, the laser guns use infrared light to give it the look of lasers. The energy is comparable to remote controls used for TVs or other appliances. So, despite many people’s concerns about safety, pointing a laser tag gun at someone, even their eyes, is just as harmless as pointing a remote at them.

The infrared rays emitted are low energy and low frequency. This means that they cannot cause any type of damage, so everyone’s eyes are safe!

But, You Should Try to Avoid Injuries While Playing Laser Tag

Now that you know that laser tag isn’t going to damage the eyes from lasers, you may be wondering if there are any other potential injuries to be aware of. Some of the most common injuries include bruises and sprained ankles. It’s not too hard to miss-step or make a move too quickly when the adrenaline is pumping and your excitement is building.

Wearing proper attire greatly minimizes the risk of injury. This includes wearing comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. Closed-toe shoes are a must! Choosing the right clothes and shoes are key for keeping your arms, legs, toes, and every other body part protected throughout the course.
